LLL 530 - AI and the Law


This course addresses the dual aspects of AI in the legal domain: the laws governing AI technology and the application of AI in legal practice. The impacts of AI on the knowledge worker economy, copyright protections, and civil rights will underpin discussions and analysis of the regulatory frameworks for AI, ethical considerations in AI deployment, and the evolving nature of AI-related legislation. The course will also delve into practical applications of AI in legal settings, including AI-assisted legal research and advice, predictive analytics for case outcomes, and automation in contract analysis. Students will engineer legal prompts, provide ethical AI oversight, draft an AI policy proposal, analyze AI tools used in the legal profession, and explore AI's impact on traditional legal roles.
