MLS 432 - Litigation and Its Alternatives


This course explores the proceedings by which criminal and civil matters are litigated, and alternative strategies such as plea bargaining, negotiation, mediation and arbitration.Students will study the stages of litigation from filing through appeal and the roles and responsibilities of the parties, witnesses (expert and lay), attorneys, judges and jurors. After examining litigation alternatives, they will compare the costs and consequences of the various strategies to individuals and society at large. (2 units)
